Product Questions

The BW Solo single gas detector is a reusable monitor, designed to reduce costs whilst still ensuring workers are protected and compliant.

Please note: there are currently long lead times on the BW Solo HCN models. Check with our Sales Team for expected delays and up to date information.

This single gas detector is available in numerous configurations including O2, CO, H2S, NH3, CO2, SO2, HCN, CL2, NO, NO2, PH3, ETO, CLO2, O3 and H2. It has a typical battery life of 6-12 months, depending on the type of sensor chosen. The Solo is the first single gas detector to use 1-series sensors for CO, H2S and O2. This makes it highly accurate, fast-responding but at a low cost.

It’s easy to maintain and the sensors, batteries and sensor filters can be replaced without having to take the unit apart. There's an option to activate the Intelliflash or non-compliance flash to show at a glance that the unit is ready to be used in operation. It comes with a triple alarm system showing a visual alarm, vibrating alarm and audible alarm when gas is present.

Key Features

  • Can be used with the IntelliDox for automatic bump and calibration
  • Simple user interface which is easy to read

  • Ability to assign detectors to different workers and locations
  • Data logging with rolling 24-hour peak reading
  • IP66/68 rated

Where is the Honeywell reset button? ›

Make sure your thermostat is on. Press and hold the “Set” button on the left side of the user interface. While holding down the “Set” button, use a paper clip or another slender object to press the recessed reset button located on the side of the unit to the right of the user interface.

How do you troubleshoot a gas detector? ›

Check the operating temperature range to see if the weather is causing the problem. For fixed gas detectors, check the power cable for damage. Test the amount of voltage going into the device. If there's no voltage, inspect the fuse connectors going in and out of the marshaling cabinet.

What is the difference between a gas monitor and a gas detector? ›

One of the most important differences is that a monitor can be portable, allowing workers to clip them onto their uniforms when heading to work in an area that might have gas leaks. Many of the monitors are personal-use ones, and the addition of them to your commercial building can be a great benefit to your employees.

What is the disadvantage of gas monitor? ›

Only one gas can be measured with each instrument. When heavy dust, steam or fog blocks the laser beam, the system will not be able to take measurements. This is also the case when a person or vehicle blocks the path.

Are single gas monitors designed to detect a single specific gas? ›

Single gas detectors are designed to detect one specific type of gas or vapor. They are often used for monitoring environments where the presence of a particular gas is expected or where there is a specific concern about a particular gas.

How often do gas detectors need to be calibrated? ›

Calibration is recommended annually or if bump testing indicates an out of spec sensor. Due to the technology of electrochemical sensors, they will deplete over time and more rapidly if exposed to the target gas. They can also be poisoned if exposed to certain gases.

Can I calibrate my own gas detector? ›

This can be done manually with a regulator, calibration gas, calibration cap and tubing. Or it can be done automatically with the use of a calibration docking station, such as the Galaxy GX2.

What are the two main reasons for gas detector failure? ›

Gas interference: Cross interference from other gases can compromise the performance of a gas sensor, altering the calibration curve will result in false or inaccurate readings. Component failure: Like everything else your gas detectors are prone to wear and tear.

How do I know if my gas detector is working? ›

Bump testing is the only way to ensure the sensors and alarm on your portable gas detector are functioning properly. A bump test involves exposing the detector's sensors to a concentration of gas that is greater than the alarm set points. If the sensors are working properly the alarm will go off.

What is the main problem in using gas filled detectors? ›

The main problem is the small size of the voltage pulse that is produced by the interaction of a single quantum of radiation. The deposition of 1 MeV of energy in an ion chamber with a typical capacitance of 100 picofarads (pF) results in a voltage pulse with amplitude of only about 50 microvolts (μV).
