Welcome to my guide of the FFXIV Order of the Twin Adder Hunting Log. We’ll look at its purpose, how it fits into your ranking and, most importantly, how to clear it easily!
The Order of the Twin Adder in FFXIV is one of Eorzea’s original three Grand Companies. After you defeat Ifrit as part of the MSQ, you are invited to join one of them and you must choose one to continue. You can engage with as much or as little of the Grand Company activities as you like. However, one of those is a specific hunting log for that GC.
Where is the Twin Adder Hunting Log?
Once you have joined the GC (during the quest The Company You Keep), a new icon will appear on your regular hunting log. Click/Select this to see the targets specific to the Order of the Twin Adder:
Click/Select this icon to see the Twin Adder Hunting Targets
Quick Skip
If you know the basics of the FFXIV Hunting Logs already then you can skip to Rank 1, Rank 2 or Rank 3.
Ranks that Depend on your GC Log
Being promoted within the Twin Adder – as with all of the Grand Companies – involves a combination of activities. These may be quests, turning in a certain number of GC seals and clearing their hunting log ranks. To reach the following ranks you will be required to complete ranks of your GC hunting log:
- Serpent Sergeant Third Class: Rank 1
- Second Serpent Lieutenant: Rank 2
I had thought you needed Rank 3 for Serpent Captain, but it seems that is not required. It’s been a while since I became Captain on all three of my main characters.
I finally created a guide to FFXIV Grand Company Ranks. I hope you find it useful!
Rewards for Clearing Hunt Targets
Instead of EXP and , the Order of the Twin Adder Hunting Log awards Serpent Seals. These can be used to exchange for a variety of goods in Gridania, but if you are intent on promotion, you will need to keep some in reserve for ranking up.
With all that covered, let’s finally look at the Hunting Log in detail.
Not Yet Searchable
Before we crack on, I just wanted to say that I have now started to give these enemies their own pages, as I have with my general FFXIV Hunting Logs.
For a time, this log will be a mixture of those that do, and those that don’t. Thank you for your patience!

Amalj'aa Javelinier
Number Required: 3
Seals Reward:

The Amalj'aa Javelinier is found within the not-so-subtly-named "Amalj'aa Encampment" in Eastern Thanalan. If you haven't cleared this entry but are still doing the early MSQ, then your travels with Thancred bring you here anyway.
They are not directly involved with the relevant quest, but if another player did theirs just before you, then you may need to wait for respawn.
If you've switched Grand Company, then you'll need a purposeful trip, sorry!

Sylvan Scream

The Sylvan Scream is one of a few variety of touched Sylphs to feature in The Order of the Twin Adder Hunting Log. The log information itself is only vaguely-accurate too.
Technically, they are located in the Bramble Patch, but in reality, they're in the passage between it and Larkscall. Also, all the touched Sylphs look the same except for their weapons (for those that carry them). Look for the little symbol over their heads to clear the correct ones!

The Kobold Pickman variety of Kobolds is one of a few scavenging around the skeleton at Thalaos in Upper La Noscea. I found four of them, but you only need three.
Despite their name, they are not holding picks, but axes. But don't take time to question why they're mining or digging with an axe!
Just appease your superiors and take some out for the safety of Eorzea. Then you can check off another entry in the Hunting Log to ease your rise in the Grand Company Ranks.

Amalj'aa Bruiser
Number Required: 3
Seals Reward:

Just South-East of Little Ala Mhigo, you'll find a group of Amalj'aa of various types loitering around. The Amalj'aa Bruiser is a Pugilist, but unless you're well over-levelled, then others will join in the fighting.
No one's ever complained about taking out too many of them though, have they? Well, except maybe the Amalj'aa themselves! The Twin Adder and Maelstrom certainly won't!
Bruisers and Rangers
Incidentally, I spotted Amalj'aa Rangers mixed in with the Amalj'aa Bruisers on today's GC Hunting log run. So you may not need a trip to Southern Thanalan.

The Ixal are the bane of Gridanians and the Wood Wailers. So, it's the perfect entry for your Order of the Twin Adder Hunting Log!
In an unassuming corner of the North Shroud, you'll find a gaggle of Ixal, including your Ixali Deftalon. They're the gladiators of the Ixal - if they held such ranks, which they don't!
Where are They?
Officially, they're in Alder Springs. But it's off the "beaten track". Head West from Treespeak and as soon as you've moved into Alder Springs turn South.

The Amalj'aa Ranger is an archer and can be found in the Wellwick Wood area of Eastern Thanalan. Once you cross Highbridge, keep going almost directly East and you'll come across them. There is often a FATE in this area too.
Naturally, there are other Amalj'aa around too, so be aware of this if you're on-level or thereabouts.

That said, if you're newly-arrived in Coerthas, then ConsoleGamesWiki has an alternative location. This is just East of the Observatorium around X:31, Y:28.

Rank 1 Dungeon Targets
For Rank 1 of the Order of the Twin Adder Grand Company Hunting Log, you need to take on Halatali. This is not a core MSQ dungeon, so you will need to unlock it, if you have not done so already. A Kobold Missionary. It's an interesting title, I have to admit. Do they try to convert you to Koboldism, or just searching for weaklings to get them tempered by Titan?
In either case, it's logical to eliminate the threat (until they come back one minute later!).
Where to Find Kobold Missionaries
In Eastern La Noscea, North-West of Bloodshore, there is a small camp of Kobolds. As far as I can tell, there are only three at any one time. You may need to wait for them to respawn if you arrive shortly after someone else.
There are some Kobold Pitmen around here too.

Having to target the Kobold Sidesman along with so many other Kobolds is a reminder that the Grand Companies need to work together. They are not just a threat to the Maelstrom. This is why they feature on the Twin Adder Hunting Log and even that of the Immortal Flames.
These ones can be found in Zelma's Run in Upper La Noscea. Two of the Sidesmen are on the...sides, man. (Bad-dum-tss).

If you weren't sick of hunting Kobolds for ticks on your log already, you might be now! The bright yellow area of Iron Lake is full of them, scrabbling around for worthwhile ore scraps. Not the worthless ore of the Tribal Quest variety!
The Kobold Roundsman is just one of the types here and, if you're vaguely on-level, you'll have to fight your way to them.
That said, there are loads of Roundsmen! So, even if other players are hunting or questing here, you're not short of choices. Don't fight other players when you should be fighting Kobolds, hmm?

You will find the Shelfclaw Sahagin beyond the Tidegates of Western La Noscea. More can be found quicker by taking the South Tidegate, however. Stop the "fishbacks" before they breach the walls that were put there to hold them back!
This may be a busy area for other players. The MSQ, Tribal Quests and the Hunt, plus numerous FATEs occur here. But there are more than the required number for the Twin Adder Hunting Log.

Needing the U'ghamaro Roundsman makes you take your first steps into the U'ghamaro Mines. At least for the Order of the Twin Adder Hunting Log anyway!
The Roundsmen hold daggers, and stationary ones can often be seen throwing their weapon in the air and catching it again. Show-offs.

Your fight against the Sahagin takes you deeper in than in Rank 2. The Sapsa Shelftooth is a Conjurer-style Sahagin found within the Sapsa Spawning Grounds.
But they are spread far apart, from what I can see. If you have flight, start from the Southernmost Shelftooth at X:15.1, Y:15.4 and gradually work North. If you do not, your first one is at X:15.5, Y:14.2 and you can work westward.
More than Three Sapsa Shelftooth Enemies

In case it was not painfully obvious, the Zahar'ak Pugilist is a pugilist...in Zahar'ak! I can hear your gasp of astonishment from here. Or it's just the voices. Ignore me.
As is generally the case in this area, you're up against Amalj'aa of different classes. Unless you immediately follow another player through here, Zahar'ak is a gauntlet. Zahar'ak Battle Drakes and fire-attuned, auto-firing towers will also impede your progress.
Slay Amalj'aa Responsibly
As with other Primal-centric areas, you can expect other players to be passing through here. It's also a prime location for the Tribal quests from the Ring of Ash.
So don't fight other players for your Order of the Twin Adder Hunting Log (or Relic Book) entries. There's plenty more lizards in the desert.
